After Pierre Strong Deal, These Patriots Draft Picks Remain Unsigned

The New England Patriots made a bunch of surprising moves in the NFL Draft. Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t get the players he needed in the first round, but we trusted the process. It turns out that Belichick actually filled some major holes on his roster. The Patriots started signing rookies, but several draft picks remained unsigned.

Pierre Strong is the most recent rookie to get a deal with the team. The Patriots offered him a four-year deal worth $4.3 million as confirmed by Field Yates from ESPN. Belichick selected two running backs in the draft and Strong had a chance to get his deal with the team. Kevin Harris is the other running back to join the team.

Patriots draft picks won’t remain unsigned forever

Three picks have yet to get their contracts with the team. Surprisingly, Cole Strange hasn’t signed his deal with the Patriots. Belichick used his first pick to get him. Many thought that he’d go after a corner or a receiver. Picking Strange wasn’t an expected move, but Belichick didn’t want to leave him behind. Will Strange ink his deal in the near future? It’s even more interesting to note that Tyquan Thornton hasn’t signed a deal, too. The same goes to fourth-round quarterback Bailey Zappe.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe has more details about the situation in New England.

We have a few good reasons to believe that the Patriots will sign these players without a problem. Belichick has a reason to select them and they won’t be left out in the rain.

Belichick doesn’t really waste his time thinking about contracts. Players get their deals sooner or later. Mac Jones got his deal in July last year. The Patriots didn’t sign him right away. Strange and Thornton may take the same route.

The Patriots canceled the final portion of spring activities and players have plenty of time to rest and relax. Let’s see what happens in July. The final roster trimming will make things clearer for everyone. Who will leave the team? Strange is not going anywhere.
