Lakers Linked to Talented Son of Team Legend & Hall of Famer

The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to several players this offseason, including the son of an NBA legend. They have LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the team, but Rob Pelinka will try to get the best of the lethal duo. The Lakers really need to pack their roster with talent and Shareef O’Neal seems to be a natural fit for the team.

Shaquille O’Neal showed his excitement about the Lakers search for a head coach. He even offered himself as an option. Of course, the Lakers can’t afford to hire him as a head coach. O’Neal demanded too much money. His offer was a joke, but hey, it made sense in so many aspects.

The Lakers are linked to the son of the NBA legend for a reason

O’Neal didn’t get a chance to coach the Lakers, but his son Shareef has been linked to the team in a different way.

Shareef was diagnosed with a heart condition and missed his freshman year. The next three seasons were relatively easy and O’Neal has a chance to earn his spot in the NBA.

Shaq was brilliant in college and just like LeBron James, he was the No.1 overall pick for the team. His son won’t be a first rounder but he is an excellent defender and NBA teams can benefit from his athleticism.

“O’Neal is a fluid 6-10 athlete who is well coordinated, has good strength and a solid build,” NBA Draft Room discussed. “He runs the court well and has nice leaping ability, allowing him to make plays above the rim. He’s a high level dunker and has nice touch around the basket. On the defensive end he show’s great timing as a weak-side shot blocker and impressive length and leaping ability.

“Needs to play with a more consistent motor and pick up the effort on the defensive end. His feel for the game is about average.”

Shareef may not be the top prospect this year, but he is definitely a popular name. Shaq set up a good example for him and the young player will try to apply the lessons he learned from his father.
