Lakers May Lose Both LeBron James & Anthony Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers are open to many changes at the moment. The team will rebuild the roster and fill each and every gap. There are several realistic scenarios and one of them suggests that the Lakers may lose both LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

King James will become a free agent in the 2022-23 season but Jeanie Buss will probably do an effort to sign him to another extension. Davis missed too much time due to injuries and his situation is not that great at the moment.

Lakers to lose LeBron and Davis sooner than expected

Bill Simmons and Ryan Russillo discussed the situation in LA. Simmons would trade LeBron away which would push Davis out of LA.

“She’s [Jeanie Buss] a very nice person, but it’s a bizarre ownership situation, just bizarre,” Simmons explained during his June 13, 2022 podcast. “And you have a fan base with huge expectations, and I just think it’s going to be a really dark next few years.

“And I think that’s a really hard job because if I took the job, I would try to trade LeBron right now. That would be my move. I’m not winning the title next year. I would really try to aggressively try to turn LeBron into something back and then try to figure out what I have with Davis. But they’re not going to do that and then LeBron’s going to leave after next season and now it’s just Davis.

“Well, what’s going to happen with that? How many times have we talked about, ‘Well, he’s under a long contract.’ Okay, great. He’s gonna want out of the Lakers [if James leaves]. So, I just wouldn’t want to be involved in any of that. No, thanks.”

The Lakers can’t lose LeBron right now. NBA execs have a few reasons to believe that LeBron will retire as a Laker. Buss and Magic Johnson signed him for a reason. A Western Conference general manager noted that “there’s no sign that LeBron wants to leave” the Lakers. Let’s see what happens next. If the Lakers continue losing games, LeBron will definitely go somewhere else.
