NFL Legend Says Patriots Draft Pick ‘on a Mission to Intercept Balls’

Herm Edwards supports the New England Patriots in their plan to use one draft pick early in the regular season. Edwards is definitely a fan of Jack Jones. Moreover, he insists that Jones is in good hands.

“It’s a good spot for him, as there will be people there to keep the thumb on him,” Edwards said. “I told him, ‘You’re at a place now where you have to check all the boxes.’ He’s been a handful, but he’s a good kid. Loves football. Loves competing. Once he’s in the building, on the field, he’s all about football now.”

It seems like Belichick has found a true gem in the 2022 NFL Draft. Edwards had something to say about Jones’ skill set and all the things he can accomplish on the football field.

“He’s a very explosive athlete. Very competitive. He has pretty good ball skills, finding and turning and locating the ball,” Edwards said. “He has good anticipation. Sometimes his eyes get him in trouble, because he’s on a mission to intercept balls and he’ll guess a little bit. And weight-wise [177 pounds], you’d wish he’d be a little bit bigger. But he’s not afraid to tackle. He’ll throw his body at people.”

The Patriots will get the best of their draft pick

Jones has yet to hit the field in a regular season, but his fanbase is huge. Alex Ballentine from Bleacher Report is one of the fans. Of course, the rookie may not become an All-Pro in his first season with the Patriots, but he can definitely earn a spot on the active roster. Belichick needs strong corners and Jones may be the perfect option.

“The Patriots don’t have to turn Jones into an All-Pro corner in Year 1,” Ballentine said. “If he even becomes a starter, that’s a huge value for the fourth round.”

New England has entered a challenging summer. Belichick has a couple of months to adjust his scheme. He signed a bunch of new players and Mac Jones is still leading the team. The new-look Patriots team has an excellent potential at the moment.
