Patriots Assistant ‘One of the Smartest Football Brains’ In NFL

The New England Patriots added a familiar name to their coaching staff and this assistant is one of the smartest coaches in the league.

Matt Patricia joined the Patriots at the right time and this time he was given a big role. Head coach Bill Belichick trusted Patricia enough to move him to the other side of the ball. Patricia did some work on the offense. This is pretty surprising given that he spent most of his career working as a defensive coach. He sure has some experience on the offensive line on the field. Patricia coached the Detroit Lions, remember? This experience will help him accomplish his tasks without a problem.

“I will say Matty P is one of the smartest football brains I’ve been around,” Agnew told Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus. “He can literally coach any position group at a high level in my opinion.”

Dante Scarnecchia taught Patricia really well. The Patriots assistant learned from the best head coach. This experience will lead him to bigger wins in the upcoming season.

“I don’t care what position you coach in the NFL, you spend time with Dante you automatically become a better coach,” he said.

Belichick hopes to see the best of his coaching staff. Having Patricia around would be of great help for the Patriots. Belichick appreciates his experience and his assistants will work with a great group in 2022.

“Matt and Joe have a tremendous amount of leadership, as do the other coaches on the offensive side of the ball, too,” Belichick said in early June. “Ross (Douglas), Troy, Nick, Billy (Yates), Vinnie, they all bring a good level of experience, playing experience, coaching experience, experience in our system. It’s a good group.”

Josh McDaniels left the Patriots without an offensive coordinator. Belichick said the team won’t have defensive and offensive coordinators. Well, it seems like Patricia will do most of the job. Coach B, Patricia, and Joe Judge worked with the offense and NFL reporters created a few realistic scenarios.

“Belichick has not yet decided who will call the plays during the season, but it’s trending in Patricia’s direction according to a source,” said Howe. “Patricia and Judge are each preparing for the possibility of calling plays, but Patricia’s workload this spring has suggested he’s the early favorite to handle that responsibility.”
