Patriots Coach ‘One of the Smartest Football Brains’ Around The League Says NFL WR

The New England Patriots are more than happy to have Matt Patricia on their coaching staff. The Patriots coach is one of the smartest coaches in the NFL and the team challenged him in the most brilliant way. Head coach Bill Belichick moved Patricia to the offense. Will he face too many issues in 2022?

Patricia is doing his best to boost the offense. He worked on the defense for a really long time and this change surprised many talking heads.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jamal Agnew worked with Patricia during his time with the Detroit Lions. Patricia was their head coach and now he will lead the offense in New England.

“I will say Matty P is one of the smartest football brains I’ve been around,” Agnew told Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus. “He can literally coach any position group at a high level in my opinion.”

Patricia learned from the best. His experience with Dante Scarnecchia will help him cope with whatever challenge comes his way. Keep in mind that he was an offensive lineman in college. When it comes to his early NFL coaching career, Patricia was an offensive assistant in 2004 and offensive line coach in 2005.

“I don’t care what position you coach in the NFL, you spend time with Dante you automatically become a better coach,” Patricia said.

Head coach Bill Belichick is a fan and he really respects Patricia’s effort.

“Matt and Joe have a tremendous amount of leadership, as do the other coaches on the offensive side of the ball, too,” Belichick said in early June. “Ross (Douglas), Troy, Nick, Billy (Yates), Vinnie, they all bring a good level of experience, playing experience, coaching experience, experience in our system. It’s a good group.”

Patricia to lead the offense

We have a few good reasons to believe that this praise will give Patricia the keys to the offense. Josh McDaniels left the Patriots to coach the Las Vegas Raiders and the Patriots have yet to find a new OC. Is Patricia the right person to replace McDaniels? Jeff Howe from The Athletic discussed this idea.

“Belichick has not yet decided who will call the plays during the season, but it’s trending in Patricia’s direction according to a source,” said Howe. “Patricia and Judge are each preparing for the possibility of calling plays, but Patricia’s workload this spring has suggested he’s the early favorite to handle that responsibility.”

The Patriots packed their offense with talents. Newly-acquired players won’t have a hard time coping with the mechanism in New England. They showed great potential in training camp. The receiving group is great, too. In other words, Patricia will work with an excellent group which would make things easier for him.
