Patriots Draft Pick Inks Rookie Contract After Promising Minicam

The New England Patriots made some unexpected moves in the 2022 NFL Draft. Head coach Bill Belichick was supposed to address some major concerns early in the offseason, but he decided to take a different route. The Patriots needed receivers and cornerbacks. Belichick used his first-round pick to get Cole Strange. It was an unusual pick for the team, but Belichick made this decision for a reason. Patriots players took part in spring OTAs. Mandatory minicamp was next. The Patriots head coach was fine with the performance of one particular draft pick and rewarded the rookie with a contract.

Jack Jones inked his first deal with the Patriots as confirmed by his agent J. Toolson. New England selected Jones in the fourth-round of the NFL draft and he has just signed a four-year deal with the team.

Patriots draft pick gets good deal, four others will soon sign

The Patriots selected three players in the fourth round and made a total of 10 selections. Six rookies got their contracts with the Patriots and four of them have yet to ink the paper. Fellow cornerback Marcus Jones, running back Kevin Harris, defensive lineman Sam Roberts, and offensive linemen Chasen Hines and Andrew Stueber got their deals with the Patriots as well. New England will probably offer them deals in the next couple of weeks. It’s a long offseason after all. Well, some players will have to leave following Belichick’s final roster trimmings.

Strange is doing a good job on the field, but he has yet to get his rookie contract signed. The same goes to wide receiver Tyquan Thornton, running back Pierre Strong, and quarterback Bailey Zappe.

Patriots coaches observed Jones in minicamp and his interception turned heads. His forced fumble was equally brilliant.

Jones has one major plan on his table. He is trying to gain some weight because he is somewhat smaller than most players on his position. Jones measured t 5’11, 175 pounds. Yes, he has to bulk up!

“Of course I know I need to gain some weight,” the rookie said. “I’m a little small. But I try to play as big as possible.”
