Patriots Mainstay Never Wanted to Leave New England In His Career

The New England Patriots had a lot of great players on the roster in the last couple of decades. Players were in and out and some of them made a huge impact. Truth is, a Patriots mainstay didn’t even plan to leave the team. This comment didn’t really come as a surprise for the team.

Devin McCourty decided to join the Patriots for a reason. He had a key role on the Patriots defense and head coach Bill Belichick didn’t want to let him go.

McCourty had a chance to become a free agent in the offseason. He is a really talented player and leaving the Patriots was never an option. McCourty earned three rings in his NFL career and made the Pro Bowl on two occasions.

The Patriots got the best of McCourty and he was the real role model for young players. McCourty inked a one-year deal with the team and we have a few good reasons to believe that he will retire as a Patriots veteran.

The Patriots mainstay never planned to leave the team

The NFL media asked a lot of questions about McCourty’s role with the team. Believe it or not, McCourty didn’t even think of leaving his team. He will retire as a Patriots player.

“This time I’ll be 35 in August, it wasn’t like it was before,” the veteran said. “For me, it was always about staying here and getting it done. I’m content with my career, I’ve loved every second here in New England…Very happy to be back here.”

The Patriots trusted McCourty enough to give him a key role on the Patriots secondary. Belichick has an excellent player on his roster and he won’t give up on him that easily.

New England welcomed several great players this offseason. Malcolm Butler joined the team once again. Kyle Dugger and Adrian Phillips have a major role with the team. They did 92 tackles and four interceptions this past season. Jabrill Peppers is expected to make a move this offseason. The NFL world has great expectations from him.
