Patriots Release Former Michigan Standout

The New England Patriots made another unexpected move and released a former Michigan Wolverine standout. Head coach Bill Belichick was really lucky to turn one Michigan prospect into a GOAT. Tom Brady and Belichick led the Patriots to nine Super Bowl appearances and won six titles. Brady became a synonym for the Patriots. The team was trying to get another Michigan player and get the best of this talent, but it didn’t work. This player wasn’t a good fit for the Patriots.

On Friday, the team confirmed the signing of veteran kicker Tristan Vizcaino. Well… Someone had to go. The Patriots decided to cut ties with Michigan kicker Quinn Nordin. Belichick has to sacrifice one of his players to make room for Vizcaino.

Patriots had to release the Michigan standout

Nordin, 23, was about to enter his second season with the Patriots. Belichick signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2021. Yes, he had a chance to get the starting job, but sustained a terrible injury that kept him away from the field for a long time. The Patriots reached for Nick Folk and the veteran took the starting job. Folk showed the Patriots that he is the right player to join the team and Nordin didn’t even get a chance to see some action with the Patriots. As this wasn’t enough, he also lost his spot on the Patriots roster.

Nordin’s strong legs would have helped the Patriots win a lot of games. His leg game was impeccable and Nordin was actually someone who can do 50+ yard field goals in one single game. Impressive, right?

Nordin hit a Michigan record for field goals over 40 yards with 14. He was able to match the Michigan record for longest field goal with a 57-yarder in the 2020 Citrus Bowl.

There’s one problem though. Nordin had some issues with accuracy. He was able to convert about 72.4 percent of his field goals and 96.0 percent of his extra points.

We have a good reason to believe that Nordin won’t have trouble signing with another team. He is an excellent player after all.
