Patriots Rookie Predicted to Take Over Major Role in Week 1

The New England Patriots made a lot of unexpected moves in the 2022 NFL Draft. Patriots owner Robert Kraft had high expectations from his team. He will probably be satisfied with the moves head coach Bill Belichick made so far. New England was in desperate need for receivers and corners, but he used his first-rounder on an offensive lineman. The Patriots selected Cole Strange with the 24th overall and this was definitely an unexpected pick for the team. Belichick selected a handful of talented players, including Marcus Jones. According to NFL experts, the Patriots rookie will have a big role in Week 1 of the new season.

Jones may be smaller than other cornerbacks, but Belichick will definitely appreciate his speed and effort. New England lost J.C. Jackson and Stephon Gilmore and yes, they really need a good alternative.

Mike Dussault and many others discussed Jones’ potential role with the Patriots. He wasn’t really sure if the rookie corner will have a big role on the Patriots defense in 2022. However, he knows that the Patriots will get the best of Jones as a kick returner.

Numbers show that Jones was the best return man in college football in 2021. He split his time between Troy and Houston and delivered 9 return touchdowns. Lance Zierlein said he was pretty similar to Kansas City Chiefs special teams star Dante Hall. Jones is expected to be of great help for quarterback Mac Jones and the offense in general.

New England used a third-round pick on Jones, but he can easily become one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Belichick may have found a true gem and we can only hope for the best.

The Patriots are entering the 2022 season with a different roster. Belichick lost a few key players in free agency. Isaiah Wynn is also questionable because he didn’t join his team in the first session of OTAs. Trent Brown moved to the other side and this whole thing may take a different route in September. Let’s see what happens in training camp. It’s a long summer after all.
