Patriots Team Captain Restructures His Contract

The New England Patriots are making some much-needed changes this year. Head coach Bill Belichick spent a lot of money to get all those talented players last offseason. The Patriots signed a bunch of free agents and spent a big chunk of their cap space to seal the deal. Belichick doesn’t have much money to work with this year which is why one of his veterans decided to help. Patriots captain David Andrews is restructuring his deal, giving the team some extra cash. With this move, the Patriots are saving $2.1 million.

“The Patriots restructured the contract of C David Andrews, creating $2.1M in 2022 cap space by converting $3.15M of compensation into a signing bonus, per source,” Field Yates reported. “Andrews’ updated 2022 cap charge: $4.275M.”

Of course, the Patriots didn’t do all these to keep those money intact. They signed Cole Strange, Tyquan Thornton, and Bailey Zappe and have $359,634 in cap space. The regular season will start within a couple of months and Belichick is expected to make a few more moves. He doesn’t have much money, but he’ll come up with something.

The Patriots captain to get the best of his contract

Andrews has a key role on the Patriots roster and this won’t change in the near future. He will work with a few new players and some of them have already caught his attention. Belichick’s first-round pick is one of them.

“I think Cole’s doing a great job,” Andrews told reporters via NBC Sports Boston. “I remember what it was like being a rookie. So, there’s a lot on his plate. I think he’s done a good job, coming in and really working hard. Trying to learn it. Obviously, the biggest jumps, you know, really come in training camp.

“But, you know, he’s done a good job. He works really hard. But like all of us, we’ve got a long way to go.”

Absolutely. New England has to overcome some obstacles and prepare for the new season and all the opponents on their list. Beating the Buffalo Bills is a priority, right?
