Russell Westbrook Has Allegedly Made Final Call on Lakers Contract

The Los Angeles Lakers have to handle one major situation this offseason. Russell Westbrook has yet to secure his Lakers contract. The All-Star is coming off a bad season and NBA experts have already predicted a crash in his career. The Lakers have a new head coach and Darvin Ham may find the best way to use Brodie.

NBA experts can’t really agree on the Westbrook thing. Some say he should go somewhere else, while others hope for a better end of this story. The Lakers got Westbrook for a few good reasons, but his addition was a big mistake. Frank Vogel benched him in the regular season and Westbrook wasn’t too excited about this. He even complained that the Lakers never gave him a real chance.

Darvin Ham has a different story to tell. He has great plans for Westbrook and the veteran was one of the very few Lakers players to attend Ham’s introductory press conference.

Russell Westbrook to get the best of his Lakers contract

Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN discussed Westbrook’s plans for his future. Is he staying in LA?

“Not only is [Ham] going to keep Russell Westbrook accountable as they move forward, but he’s going to hold the entire team accountable,” Wojnarowski said. “In his mind, that’s a step for this organization. Now, Russell Westbrook can opt into the final years of his contract at $47 million, he’s expected to do that at the end of the month, but Russell Westbrook is really enthusiastic in getting to know Darvin Ham so far and expects to talk a lot more with him about his role, how he fits into as they move through the summer towards training camp.”

The Lakers have to make an official decision on Westbrook. He has to make a final announcement, too.

Westbrook showed great potential over the years. He was a dominant force on his team, but this dominance was nowhere to be seen last year. LeBron James and Anthony Davis wanted Westbrook on their team and even pressured the front office to sign him. A bad move, obviously. Let’s see if Ham fix this problem.
