Bill Belichick Praises Danny Amendola After Ex-Patriot’s Retirement

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has nothing but words of praise for Danny Amendola. The wide receiver didn’t finish his NFL career as a Patriot, but he sure made great memories with the team. Amendola retires after 13 long years in the NFL. He won two rings during his time with the Patriots. It was a wild ride for everyone.

Belichick heard of Amendola’s retirement and offered great words for his former player.

“Love Danny,” Belichick said told Ben Volin from The Boston Globe. “He was a very good player for us. Had a lot of skill. Mostly played inside but could play outside. Could return. Very smart, tough, dependable. Great hands, and concentration. Good football player. Glad we had him here and he certainly was a big contributor for us while he was here. … He missed a little time, but he was out there every chance he could be. He was tough.”

Bill Belichick got the best of Danny Amendola

Amendola didn’t see much action in his final year with the Texans, but he was a good target for Tom Brady. He delivered great performance in each Super Bowl appearance and the Patriots won a couple of titles with his help. It’s interesting to note that Amendola was gathering attention this offseason. NFL teams still wanted him, but he decided to call it career.

“Very dependable. He was tough, he’d block,” Belichick said of his former player. “We’ve been very fortunate to have some good players at (slot receiver). You know, Troy (Brown) is as good as it could be. And you think … it’s hard to match Troy — and it is hard to match Troy, it’s really impossible — but Wes (Welker) did a great job for us. Danny came in. Julian (Edelman), Jakobi (Meyers). Guys that have played in that spot have been different, but they’ve all been productive and they’ve all brought some of the same common characteristics to the inside receiver position. It’s been a very productive spot for us through the years. Danny certainly ranks highly in that group.”
