Former Patriots TE Confirms Retirement at Age 29

Former New England Patriot TE Matt LaCosse won’t join his teammate for another season as he has just announced his retirement. The talented player calls it career at 29 and his announcement triggered an avalanche of reactions.

LaCosse took to his Twitter account to deliver the big news. He said his final goodbye and thanked everyone who sacrificed for him. A lot of people showed up for him and LaCosse is grateful for everything they did.

Patriots TE announces his retirement after the team didn’t give him a deal

The former tight end joined the NFL in 2015. He saw action in two games in his rookie campaign. LaCosse had a few stops in the NFL and spent some time with the Denver Broncos and New York Giants in 2015. The 2017 NFL season was really different for the tight end and LaCosse played in 15 games with 5 starts. It was a decent year for the tight end and he delivered 24 receptions for 250 yards and one touchdown.

The Patriots signed him in 2019. LaCosse played in 11 games with 8 starts. Of course, 2019 wasn’t his best year. In fact, Pro Football Focus said he is the lowest-rated player on Bill Belichick’s roster.

LaCosse’s situation got a little complicated and he opted out of the 2020 NFL season. Eight Patriots players did the same as they all had a reason to sit out the entire season due to health concerns. The COVID-19 pandemic affected the world of sports and NFL teams lost a lot of valuable players.

The Patriots fans wanted to see more from LaCosse and he returned to the field in 2021. He didn’t make an impact and played in just one game. Belichick placed him on the practice squad and his tenure with the team was practically over. The Patriots didn’t gave LaCosse a deal and he decided to call it career.

LaCosse retires from the NFL with 40 receptions for 403 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Losing LaCosse won’t affect Belichick’s team. The Patriots have a packed roster with a few great targets for Mac Jones.
