Former Patriots WR Inks With AFC East Rival

The New England Patriots had a few holes on their receiving unit. Head coach Bill Belichick entered the 2022 NFL Draft with a plan. He had to get some corners and receivers. It’s interesting to note that the Patriots traded for DeVante Parker and he is the only player on this unit to eclipse the 1,000 mark recently. Julian Edelman’s retirement left a big void on the Patriots roster. Now sources confirm that another Patriots WR joined a rival.

Mohamed Sanu is officially part of the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots got him from the Atlanta Falcons in 2019, offering a second-round pick to their trade partner. Sanu, 33, inked a deal with the Dolphins and his agent was the first to bring the news.

Patriots WR didn’t leave a big hole after joining a rival

Sanu has made a few stops in the NFL. He joined the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49 following his departure from New England. In 2021, he saw action in 8 games with the 49ers and delivered 15 catches for 177 yards. If you follow his career, you have probably noticed that he hasn’t delivered more than 20 receptions in a single season since 2019. In that season Sanu had 59 catches for 520 yards and two touchdowns. In 2018, Sanu had 66 receptions for 838 yards and four touchdowns.

Miami got Sanu for a reason and they have high expectations from him. Of course, he won’t take the top position in the WR unit. The Dolphins have Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Cedrick Wilson. Sanu will definitely add depth to the team. Every team in the NFL could use some veteran power, right? Miami has Lynn Bowden, Erik Ezunkanma, Trent Sherfield, Preston Williams, DeVonte Dedmon, River Cracraft, and Braylon Sanders, but these guys don’t have much experience and won’t really get a chance to rank higher in the unit.

The Patriots have enough receivers at the moment. Parker has established a good relationship with Mac Jones and the same goes to his fellow receivers. Everyone is ready for the new season!
