Patriots ‘Need Quick Ascension’ From Rookie WR

The New England Patriots have high expectations from their rookie WR. Head coach Bill Belichick selected Tyquan Thornton in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Patriots needed receivers and corners, meaning Thornton will have to do wonders on the football field. Belichick got him for a reason, remember?

Nicholas McGee from Forbes believes that Belichick will throw his rookie in the fire right away. He needs the rookie to make an impact at the beginning of the new season. Of course, Thornton was excellent this spring. He showed great skills and learned a lot from his teammates and coaches. His presence is of utmost importance for the team.

“Agholor’s presence on the roster may prevent Thornton from playing such a significant part in the offense in year one,” McGee wrote. “Yet should Thornton impress in training camp and preseason, then the Patriots could move on from Agholor and save just under $5 million against the cap, per Spotrac.”

Patriots rookie WR will have a big role in 2022

Thornton may easily steal Nelson Agholor’s spot. The veteran WR is coming off of a bad season. He delivered just 37 receptions for 473 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his first season with the Patriots. His bad numbers opens up an excellent opportunity for Thornton.

“A quick ascension for Thornton could have on-field and financial benefits for the Patriots,” Mcgee wrote. “The continued ambiguity around the play-calling situation raises concerns about Jones’ progress in year two, but he will be better equipped to take the next step if Thornton proves the rare Patriots success story at wideout.”

Losing Julian Edelman was a big blow for the Patriots. The veteran wideout called it career after a decade in the NFL. Belichick tried really hard to replace Edelman, but he didn’t have much luck so far. Let’s see if Thornton meets expectations. He looks good on the football field and Patriots fans shouldn’t be really worried about his performance in the upcoming season. Belichick picked a good player and Thornton will do his best to win. New England meets strong opponents in 2022 and Belichick’s team will hopefully beat all of them.
