Pro Football Focus Lists Patriots Top Offseason Move Of 2022

The New England Patriots lost the wild-card game to the Buffalo Bills and entered the offseason with great plans for the 2022 NFL season. Head coach Bill Belichick had to fill some holes on the roster. He needed receivers and corners and made some unexpected moves in the draft. The Patriots also traded for DeVante Parker and he is expected to make huge impact on the football field.

Brad Spielberger from Pro Football Focus, Trent Brown is the Patriots’ best offseason move.

“Following the loss of both starting guards from 2021 — with Ted Karras signing a free-agent deal with the Cincinnati Bengals and Shaq Mason traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — Brown’s return on a team-friendly deal has some added value with the continuity he provides. Furthermore, do-it-all offensive lineman Michael Onwenu can return to the right guard spot where he played most of his college career at Michigan.

Brown earned career-best 78.7 overall grade and 81.2 pass-blocking grade in 2021, and the Patriots’ AFC East foes will now line up with edge defenders Von Miller, Melvin Ingram III and Carl Lawson in addition to several young pass-rushers each has drafted in recent years.

Last but certainly not least, Brown has the ability to play both tackle spots, and his two-year deal extending beyond left tackle Isaiah Wynn’s fifth-year option season in 2022 is not a coincidence. Brown can slide over in the event of an injury and adds leverage in negotiations with the former first-rounder entering a contract year.”

Patriots offseason sets up a good base for the 2022 season

Many thought that the Patriots would let Brown go. However, Belichick offered him a two-year deal worth $22 million. Brown is one of the better players at his position, but the Patriots didn’t give him the best contract. Brown attracted the attention of several teams in the NFL and even visited the Seattle Seahawks for a workout. Belichick didn’t let him go that easily and Brown is a Patriot again.

Patriots fans wanted Belichick to bring Brown back. He was one of the better players on the roster and the Patriots really need him at the moment. Brown makes things easier for everyone.
