Patriots Released Important Tight End: NFL World Reacts
Dalton Keene won’t be a Patriot in 2022. The New England Patriots released the tight end in their most recent roster cuts. Head coach Bill Belichick is adjusting the roster and the tight end wasn’t able to keep his spot.

Belichick would do his best to sign tough players who are also smart and dependable. Oh, yes, they have to be really talented, too. You can’t be a Patriot if your football game is low. The Patriots always go after players who are tough in every aspect. They have to make good decisions and understand the game. The most important bit? Their football IQ has to be really high. Patriots players have to count on their teammates and they all face huge pressure on the football field. The Patriots are all-in when it comes to winning games and it’s always a team effort.
Patriots released the tight end for a reason
Keene is really talented, but he lacks in other areas. He joined the NFL as the 101st overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. Belichick traded up in the third round to get the Virginia Tech tight end in New England. He needed tight ends and Keene seemed to be a nice option for the team.
Former Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio had great words for Keene back in the days. He liked his game and his great size. “Fairly athletic, tough kid, smart kid”, Caserio said.
Dependability seems to be a big issue. Keene was also absent for a big chunk of his time with the Patriots. He treated his neck issue in 2020 and ended up on injured reserve due to knee injury. One thing stands for sure, Keene didn’t make an impact in New England and Belichick had to replace him.
The NFL reacted to Keene’s release and let’s say these reactions were expected. Belichick is ready to get new players and try those who have already cemented their spots in the team.
Tough run in New England for Keene. Third-rounder wound up playing 6 games. Landed on IR in back-to-back seasons with knee injuries and missed time again this summer. https://t.co/sw7PLDhqQi

Keene was considered a reach when the Patriots drafted him in the third round in 2020. He played in just six games and struggled to stay healthy. https://t.co/kkdwzGsJAT

Seemed like injuries largely derailed Keene’s career. Never got a chance to see what he could do at the pro level https://t.co/DrutN59LJc
