The New England Patriots will make a lot of changes in the next period. Head coach Bill Belichick made a few moves heading into the preseason and it seems like he will make a few more. The Patriots cut a few players in the last few days and reports suggest that one WR may end up on the trade block sooner than expected.
Kendrick Bourne, 24, had a good performance with the Patriots, but he may be the perfect trade asset. According to Andrew Callahan from Boston Herald, Bourne has attracted the attention of “several teams,” including the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers.
In 2021, Bourne recorded career-high 55 receptions and 800 yards. He showed great numbers in his prime, and yes, he has a lot to offer in the next few seasons.
Bourne enters the second season of his three-year deal worth $15 million. He is productive and NFL teams could find great use for his skills. The energetic wide receiver has a key role in New England, but he may soon go somewhere else.
Patriots WR has to find his groove, otherwise he will turn into a trade asset
Mac Jones is a bit worried about the new offense. The 2022 offense made some mistakes in the preseason and the Patriots lost the preseason finale to the Las Vegas Raiders. Bourne had some struggles with the new offense and had to leave the joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. That’s not all. Bourne had to leave the field again after an official asked him to do so.
Greg Bedard from The Boston Sports Journal has been watching Bourne for quite some time. According to him, the veteran WR “has completely lost his confidence, and you wonder if these coaches know how to give it back to him.”
Bourne is really talented, but he may face issues later in his career.
The Patriots are also working on their cap space. They have to create more space in the next few days.
Here’s the catch. Belichick likes Bourne and the WR was one of the brightest spot on the roster in 2021. Hopefully, Bourne will find a way to overcome major obstacles and keep winning games as a Patriot.
