Patriots Captain Is Close To Losing His Starting Job

The New England Patriots made big changes to their roster and one captain may soon lose his starting job. Head coach Bill Belichick made some much needed moves. Although doubters question his offseason decisions, Belichick seems to be happy with his current roster. Yes, players finished their preseason with a loss, but they have plenty of room to improve.

There have been so many stories about veterans on the current roster. According to Greg Bedard from The Boston Sports Journal, Lawrence Guy may switch spots to Christian Barmore. The second-year player showed great potential on the field this offseason. He was brilliant in 2021, too.

Bedard believes that Barmore will take Guy’s starting job sooner than expected.

“This is mostly about Barmore, who is closing in on being the full-time starter over Guy, who is on the decline,” Bedard said. “Barmore seems to have built on his rookie success. That doesn’t happen with every player.”

The Patriots captain may lose his starting job after a great performance from his younger teammate

Barmore did his job in 2021, delivering 46 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 2 passes defended. He had a decent rookie season and saw action in each and every game. Belichick gave him a chance to start games twice. Of course, Barmore has to work even harder this season, but experts have high expectations for him. He is set to have an amazing season with the Patriots.

Guy is a brilliant player, too. Can he compete with Barmore? The defensive line may look different in 2022. Guy established an excellent connection with his Patriots teammates and he is a real star in the locker room. However, teams may soon ask for his availability. Barmore’s performance may put a spell on his future in New England.

Belichick won’t give up on Guy that easily. He has a lot to offer and fans like his presence on the football field. Let’s see how things work for him. The new season is already here and the Miami Dolphins are here to challenge him in every possible way. Barmore will be waiting for his time to shine.
