Patriots Wide Receiver Will Miss At Least Four Games

The New England Patriots will start the 2022 NFL season without one of their receivers. Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton will miss at least four games. The team placed him on injured reserve Thursday afternoon.

Thornton, 22, will miss the start of the regular season. The Patriots selected the Baylor product in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Thornton sustained a serious injury in the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers and had to undergo a surgery to repair his fractured clavicle last week.

Patriots receiver to miss games after sustaining serious injury

It was a bad injury, but Patriots coaches are optimists. Head coach Bill Belichick is not really bothered at this point. Thornton was able to catch three passes for 22 yards and a touchdown in the preseason. Had the receiver been moved to IR at the 53-man roster deadline instead, Thornton would have been ineligible to return in the regular season.

Belichick has Jakobi Meyers, DeVante Parker, Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, and hybrid running back Ty Montgomery in his receiving unit. Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Tre Nixon, and Lynn Bowden Jr. are part of the practice unit.

The Patriots will be without veteran defensive lineman Henry Anderson, too. They reached an injury settlement with the veteran as reported by the transaction wire.

Anderson, 31, ended up on IR as teams around the NFL trimmed their rosters. The 2015 third-rounder saw action in four games in 2021 before sustaining a torn pectoral. Anderson was a 43-game starter with the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets. The veteran is a free agent now. He had 170 tackles, 11.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in his NFL career.

Belichick had a busy summer and he made some mind-blowing moves. Experts doubted some of his decisions, but the Patriots head coach did the best for his team. He has a plan for every position on the roster and let’s just say his formulas work. Will his 2022 formula work for the team again? Mac Jones and his teammates have to make the Super Bowl this time.
