Ex-Laker & 4-Time All-Star Pleads With NBA Teams To Give Him A ‘Chance’

LeBron James once said DeMarcus Cousins was the best center in the NBA. The four-time All-Star caught everyone’s attention with his great skill set, but things didn’t go really well for him. The ex-Laker didn’t get a chance to play his best basketball for many years as he tore his Achilles in 2018. Cousins was in his prime and this injury changed his life. It wasn’t a good change though.

The Los Angeles Lakers had Cousins on the roster and he has also made a few stops in the league. Unfortunately, the veteran has a hard time finding a home in the NBA. He is a free agent, but NBA teams aren’t really interested in giving him a chance.

Cousins talked to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports and used the opportunity to ask for a chance. He really wants to play basketball.

“Have I made mistakes? Absolutely,” Cousins told Haynes. “Have I done things the wrong way? Absolutely. For that, I’m very apologetic. But I’ve done even more things the correct way and I’ve done even more positive things compared to my negatives. I just don’t want those positives to be overlooked. And obviously, whenever it gets to the point where the negatives outweigh the positives, you should probably move away from him. That’s just how life goes. But I don’t believe I’m in that boat. I’m just asking for a chance to show my growth as a man and a player.”

Cousins had a rough few seasons, but he is confident about his talent. He maintains a good shape so he can perform at a high level. Will he get a chance to play in the NBA again? The Sacramento Kings faced serious challenge and Cousins gave them a big headache. His personality is not really a problem and NBA head coaches may be concerned about his performance.

“I’m just trying to control what I can control,” Cousins told Yahoo Sports. “This process can get repetitive and get to the point where it can kind of drive you crazy, but you just have to fall in love with the process. Every day I’m working out to make sure I’m better than I was the previous day. So whenever the opportunity does come about and my name is called upon, I’ll be prepared.”
