NFL Rumors: Josh McDaniels Given ‘Assurances’ Raiders Won’t Fire Him As Head Coach

Josh McDaniels had great success as an offensive coordinator in New England, but he really wanted to be a head coach of his own team. McDaniels wasn’t receiving many offers over the years, but the Las Vegas Raiders decided to give him a chance. Well, this experiment didn’t work and the Raiders have a 2-7 record at this point of the regular season. Will the Raiders fire him after the season?

Jeff Howe from The Athletic reported that the Raiders assured McDaniels that he will keep his job in the 2023 NFL season.

Josh McDaniels will continue working as a head coach

Las Vegas may have issues to win games, but team owner Mark Davis has nothing but support for Davis. He wouldn’t fire McDaniels at this point. He got a four-year deal with Raiders and they will keep him around for at least a year.

“As far as Josh goes, I have no issues,” Davis said. “I’m getting to know him a lot better. When you sign someone to a contract, don’t you expect him to fulfill the contract? … I like Josh. I think he’s doing a fantastic job. That’s why I hired him. We did an exhaustive search and found the person we believe is going to bring the Raiders to greatness. … Life isn’t static. It’s fluid. You want to win at the end of the year and be the one holding the trophy. Obviously, we’re not there yet. I know it’s frustrating for the fan base. I feel for them. I’m a fan, as well.”

The Patriots lost a valuable member of the coaching staff. McDaniels was leading the offense for a decade and the team had to make a change. Bill Belichick didn’t name an offensive coordinator and his assistants split responsibilities at the sideline.

The Raiders will have McDaniels around for another season. If they fire him, Belichick may be willing to bring him back for another stint. That could solve some of the issues within the Patriots organization. Let’s see what happens next season. It could bring a grand reunion for everyone.
