Patriots Reporter Shares ‘Wild Card’ Scenario For Bill O’Brien

The New England Patriots have to make some major changes in their coaching staff this offseason. Head coach Bill Belichick could get a few familiar names on his squad. The Patriots have their eyes set on Bill O’Brien and he could be their next offensive coordinator. Josh McDaniels left a big void at this position and the Patriots would do their best to get the best replacement.

According to several sources, the Patriots have interviewed O’Brien for McDaniels’ job. Well, we are not really sure that he could get this job.

Patriots may lose the chance to hire O’Brien

O’Brien is an excellent coach and he could land a great job in the NFL. Most NFL teams plan to rebuild their coaching staff, including the Tennessee Titans. Mike Vrabel needs an offensive coach and O’Brien may be willing to reunite with his former Houston Texans colleague.

There’s another catch. O’Brien could become a head coach this offseason. He’s got the experience after all. Mike Reiss from ESPN discussed O’Brien’s chances to get a head coaching job in the NFL.

“There is a potential wild card, however,” Reiss wrote. “Could the Arizona Cardinals, under first-year general manager and former Patriots director of college scouting Monti Ossenfort, make O’Brien part of their head-coaching search?

“When O’Brien was coach of the Houston Texans (2014-2020), he had requested to interview Ossenfort for the franchise’s GM position, but that was denied by New England.”

The Arizona Cardinals have yet to make a decision and they will probably take their time to get the best candidate. They fired Kliff Kingsbury and are currently looking for another head coach. Will O’Brien interview with the team?

The Cardinals can easily snatch O’Brien and force Belichick to look somewhere else. Belichick will have another busy offseason and hopefully, he will make a bunch of great decisions. New England has to reshape the roster and work on the coaching staff. There are so many options for the Patriots right now and we can only make guesses. Who will be the first coach to join the team?
