Surprising New Details On Brian Hoyer Release, Per Rumors

The New England Patriots decided to release Brian Hoyer after he spent most of the 2022 NFL season on injured reserve. The veteran quarterback suffered a concussion and his time with the Patriots was brought to an end.

Hoyer’s situation with the Patriots is not that simple though.

It goes all the way to Mac Jones and his attitude in 2022, per Chris Simms from ProFootballTalk. The Patriots offensive squad caused a mess at the sideline and the second-year quarterback decided to seek outside counsel. Everything points to the fact that Belichick didn’t like any of it.

The Brian Hoyer release wasn’t a surprise

Tom E. Curran from NBC Sports Boston discussed the same topic last week on WEEI’s “Jones & Mego with Arcand” show.

“Bill caught wind of it, and he’s still pissed about it,” Curran said.

Jones contacted someone. Who was it?

“I did not,” Curran said when asked if he knows any names. “Could it have been (former Alabama offensive coordinator Steve) Sarkisian? Could it have been folks at Alabama?”

According to Curran, Hoyer may have something to do with it. The veteran was healthy at one point, but the Patriots didn’t let him play. He was set to carry a $1.64 million dead salary cap hit next season

“Look, Brian Hoyer’s not here anymore,” Curran said. “And Brian Hoyer was guaranteed 1.4 of his two-million-dollar contract. Patriots released him, made it clear that, ‘We’re moving on because of your head.’ He had been cleared (to play) for a long time. He anticipated coming back.

“Brian Hoyer was not sold on what was going on last year. And … I think he let that be known that Mac was up against it on a weekly basis. And I think that’s a large portion of why Hoyer’s not here. The Patriots would tell you otherwise, but they’re paying him 1.4 million dollars to not play here and not be part of the system. Even through training camp and release him in August, when you could use him for this offseason. ‘Nope, thanks, we’re all set with you.’ I think it’s interesting.”
