Lakers Make Expected Decision On Possible Championship Ring For Russell Westbrook

The Los Angeles Lakers are really close to winning a championship this season. Several players left the team at the trade deadline and Russell Westbrook is one of them. The Lakers front office found a good trade partner for him and Westbrook had to leave the team. According to several sources close to the team, the Lakers will give Westbrook a championship ring if they win a title.

NBA insider Chris Haynes was among the first to discuss this possibility.

“Now, if the Lakers were able to win the whole thing, win the championship, I was told by a high ranking source within the organization that they would extend a championship ring to all players who were on the roster at any point during this season,” Haynes said on May 8, 2023 edition of TNT’s “Inside the NBA.” “So, that means if the Lakers win the whole thing, Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverley and others will receive a championship ring.

“I was told that was a protocol and system put in place by Rob Pelinka when he took over [in 2017]. It’s just a way to make sure players understand that they value them even though they didn’t make it from beginning to the end of the season with the Lakers.”

Westbrook, Beverley hope to get their championship ring

Patrick Beverley left the team, but he sure wants to get his ring. The Lakers have won three games so far and they have a real chance to make the NBA Finals.

“Russell goes, ‘Hey Pat, Lakers win I want my ring.’ I ain’t gonna lie, Russ, we gonna be suited and booted, boy, I’m gonna be right there waiting on that ring,” Beverley said on a May 3 episode of his podcast. “…If they win, you call me whatever the f*** you want to call me, boy, I’m gonna get that ring.”

Beverley had an ugly separation with the Lakers and even made some questionable comments about his time with the team.

When it comes to Westbrook, he didn’t have a good experience with the Lakers. Fans booed him every time he missed a shot and these boos turned into “Westbrick” chants. Westbrook said fans were disrespectful and even asked his loved ones to stay away from arenas. He’s gone now and the Lakers have a chance to win a ring. Is this a coincidence?
