Patriots Make Surprising Signing Amid Roster Moves

The New England Patriots made a few roster moves to improve their game plan ahead of the 2023 season and they have just added a new member to their squad. Defensive tackle Justus Tavai will get a chance to play with his brother linebacker Jahlani Tavai on the team.

Justus got a chance to be part of the 90-man roster, per Doug Kyed of AtoZ Sports. Head coach Bill Belichick likes his potential and Justus better use the new opportunity.

Justus and Jahlani make the third pair of brothers to play with the Patriots since 2017. Cody and Jacob Hollister were part of the team in 2017 and 2018. Devin and Jason McCourty played defense from 2018 to 2020 and even celebrated a Super Bowl win with the Patriots in 2019. Jason signed a deal with the Miami Dolphins in 2021 and his twin brother played two more seasons with the Patriots. He is retired now.

Patriots have great plans with the most recent roster moves

The Patriots signed Justus as an undrafted free agent. He delivered 3.5 sacks, an interception, and 38 tackles with the Aztecs in 2022. He went to SDSU after three years with Hawaii where he delivered 7.5 sacks, a pick, two forced fumbles, and 72 tackles in 19 games.

The Detroit Lions selected Jahlani in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He started games with the Patriots in 2022, delivering 69 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two pass deflections.

NFL experts have high expectations from the Tavais brothers. They have a history in the NFL. Their older brother, J.R., played with the Tennessee Titans in 2015 and their younger brother, Jonah, joined the Seattle Seahawks this season. Their father, William, and their mother Nafanua-Schuster-Tavai, also played football.

Jahlani is proud of his family and he has an extra motivation to win games.

“We just keep that pipeline going,” the newly added player said on WBZ-TV’s “Patriots 1st Down” show.

The Patriots will probably make a few more moves before training camp. They have a few major issues to solve and Belichick which keeps Belichick a little busy.
