Big Reunion With Patriots Is Possible For Former Defensive Player Of The Year

The New England Patriots are getting ready for the new season. They have filled up some holes on their roster, but can definitely use a few new players. According to several reports, the Patriots can make a move that could lead to a reunion with a former defensive player of the year. Yes, they can definitely use another familiar name.

Jerod Mayo will be working with a bunch of new players. However, he may soon welcome a former Patriot. The Patriots need to add depth to their cornerback unit. J.C. Jackson is no longer part of the team and the Patriots need to address this question.

Patriots could be looking forward to a reunion

The Patriots have enough cap space to boost their weak positions. They have yet to sign a star receiver or quarterback. When it comes to their cornerback position, they can try and get Stephon Gilmore. He has been around for quite some time and can fit in Mayo’s roster with ease.

Tom E. Curran from NBC Sports Boston believes that Gilmore is the right player to join the Patriots right now.

“The easiest thing to do? Bring Stephon Gilmore back. Even at 34, he was still an upper-tier player in ’23 for the Cowboys,” the Patriots insider explained in a March 6 piece.

The Patriots can offer Gilmore a one-year deal worth $7 million. He is an excellent veteran and we have a few good reasons to believe that he’d love to become a Patriot again.

Jeff Howe from The Athletic reported that the team wanted to get Gilmore before the start of the 2023 NFL season. However, he ended up playing with the Dallas Cowboys.

Gilmore has always been a fan of this reunion. He wanted to sign an extension with the team before the 2021 NFL season. In other words, there won’t be any trouble signing him again.

The Patriots have enough time to make all the right moves and get ready for one of the most challenging seasons in league history.
