Lakers’ D’Angelo Russell Shares Honest Take On Kobe Bryant’s Farewell Season

Late Kobe Bryant was one of the most competitive players in NBA history and every player knows it well, including Los Angeles Lakers veteran D’Angelo Russell. Kobe won five rings during his time in the NBA and build a strong legacy. Current and former NBA players respect his legacy and every milestone Kobe hit back in the days. He was talented, competitive, and dominant. His work ethic was crazy and Kobe was born to win.

However, his NBA career didn’t have the perfect ending. Kobe suffered an Achilles tendon tear in 2013. Many believe that this injury affected his performance. Well, Kobe decided to prove them wrong and scored 60 points in his final NBA game. Challenging the Black Mamba wasn’t the best move.

Russell watched Kobe destroy opposing teams

Russell just like many other had an opportunity to watch Kobe do magic. He watched the Black Mamba win and score “tough twos.” Kobe was one of a kind and he set up a great example for younger generations.

“When you got the ball and they booing you, you know what that means. Get that ball to that man. He was just trying to score. … He was shooting tough twos, like one-footed side of the three-point line twos. Pull-ups. You just see his face, he looked young, bro. Just looked like he had it,” Russell said in an appearance on the Run Your Race podcast, presented by Tidal League.

The 2010 championship marked the start of a drought in LA. Lakers players weren’t winning and suffered their biggest defeat in the 2015-16 season, winning just 17 regular season games.

Kobe was well aware of the fact that he has to retire at some point and played like his younger self once again.

“You can see it mentally, he was prepared. Everybody in the world was at the game,” Russell added.
