PHOTOS: LeBron James Announces New Retro Shoe Release Date

Ever since LeBron James’ signing with the Los Angeles Lakers became official, he and his new team have been making headlines with all sorts of exciting news.

Most recently, they’ve given lovers of his signature Nike basketball shoes a huge surprise.

James announced a retro release of his LeBron 8 shoe, made in collaboration with designer John Elliot.

“My guy John Elliot went back in the archives with the LeBron 8 and reimagined a whole new silhouette,” the NBA superstar wrote on Instagram.

The John Elliott x Nike LeBron Icon QS, a low-top lace-up silhouette featuring a white translucent upper with black stripe detailing, will be on sale at 10 AM EST Saturday morning, Eliot posted.

The new model, which James first gave fans a glimpse of while en route to Game 4 of the NBA Championships earlier this year, is also equipped with Nike branding and a full-length Air Max midsole.

Also, early samples of the upcoming LeBron 16 were leaked Tuesday.

Lakers Nation can now finally be able to visualize what LeBron James will look like in a Lakers uniform.

The team officially unveiled their new jersey editions on Tuesday – the same day when first images of LeBron’s new signature shoe, the LeBron 16, emerged. The shoes were, of course, in Lakers colors.

LeBron’s signature shoes were a huge success last year, with Nike promoting a LeBron Watch campaign, which sold shoes James was wearing in real time on the court.

At first glance, the LeBron 16 has a little bit of a different texture on the upper from the Battleknit the 15s had. The heel also appears to have LeBron’s lion logo etched on the back instead of the big Nike swooshes on the previous version.

Which one do you like better, the 8 or the 16?
