Report: Patriots Have Shown Interest In This Late-Round QB

The New England Patriots may target another QB prior to the 2020 NFL Draft. New England may be looking after an unheralded quarterback at this point.

James Madison University quarterback Ben DiNucci “has had numerous video conferences” with the organization as noted by Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline. Video conferences are the only thing teams can use to talk to players. The NFL has banned every meeting due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Pauline wrote a nice report on the case, pushing the Patriots to a rather comfortable position.

“Ben DiNucci of James Madison is another signal caller who could surprise, this time in the late rounds. The Pittsburgh transfer was not graded by scouts entering the season despite his terrific junior campaign. DiNucci followed that up with a senior year that included 3,441 yards passing and 29 touchdowns as well as a completion percentage of 71 percent. For some reason, DiNucci was snubbed from all the postseason All-Star events. He has had numerous video conferences with the New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, and Chicago Bears.”

The Patriots to go after a talented QB

DiNucci isn’t the only late-round signal-caller New England targets at the moment. They do the same moves with Florida International’s James Morgan.

New England has second year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer on the depth chart at that position. However, this doesn’t mean that the team won’t pick a quarterback in the NFL Draft. Head coach Bill Belichick said Monday he sees nice depth at the position in the upcoming year.

The Patriots nation was worried about Tom Brady’s departure. He signed a two year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will stay with the team for two years. Brady wanted to play until he is 45. He will turn 43 in August. This means that he will probably finish his career as a Buccaneer. Who will replace him in New England? Is Stidham ready to take the big position? He has a great void to fill in. Belichick may be confident about his young quarterback. Hoyer may try to compete with Stidham for the starting position. Belichick has a big decision to make.
