Report: Bill Belichick Must Fill Huge Hole Before Patriots Host Dolphins

Head coach of the New England Patriots Bill Belichick has quite a large hole to fill before they take on the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots have been very busy trying to fill all the holes that were left after last season. The 2019 season was quite disappointing and they failed to do much of anything on the offensive side of the ball.

But things are looking up in 2020. The season could be a big one for the Patriots. Most of the success will ride on the quarterback. After Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay last season, the Patriots were not sure which direction to go. They decided to sign Cam Newton, a former NFL MVP, to a one year contract to see what he can do.

Newton has since been named the starting quarterback for week one. It will be very interesting to see what he can do within the Belichick offense.

There is still quite a large hole that Belichick will need to fill, however. Dont’a Hightower, Pat Chung, and Marcus Cannon have all opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID. There are also quite a large amount of injuries they are having to deal with.

But the hole is in the kicker room. Right now, the Patriots do not have a place kicker currently on the roster. Jake Bailey does come back as the team’s punter, however. He was great as a rookie but does not not come across as a placekicker.

Bailey did have kickoff duties after Stephen Gostkowski’s injury last year. However, failed to attempt a single field goal last year or in college.

Now that the season is only a few days away, this lack of kicker puts the Patriots in a dangerous position. Belichick is going to have to make a very important roster decision before game one against the Miami Dolphins.

It will be very interesting to see what he decides to do going forward. It is not the most important position but it does put them in an interesting position.
