Lakers Reportedly Showing Serious Interest In Signing Veteran Point Guard

The Los Angeles Lakers will be signing a point guard and they have one particular player on the list. LeBron James and his teammates left the battle early in the playoffs. They were eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the very first round. Here’s a fun fact. LA goes after a Suns point guard.

Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka will have to make some moves in the offseason to avoid another playoff elimination. LA will be retooling this offseason and Chris Paul seems like a nice catch. The best part of this is his friendship with LeBron. The four-time NBA champion attended Game 5 of the NBA Finals to watch Paul play. Phoenix lost the game but LeBron showed the world that he came to support CP3.

Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated revealed that the Lakers want to sign “an elite veteran point guard” in the offseason. CP3 has a player option with the Suns and he can exercise it by August 1. He seems like the best target for King James.

Paul isn’t the only veteran guard on LeBron’s radar. The same applies to Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards. He may join the Lakers through a sign-and-trade deal.

“According to sources, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have been on the hunt for veteran point guard, and Paul is on the list,” Spears wrote. “There have also been talks about Washington Wizards star Russell Westbrook being a potential candidate to move back home to Los Angeles in a sign-and-trade deal that could include free agent point guard Dennis Schroder, forward Kyle Kuzma and guard Talen Horton-Tucker, sources said.”

Paul made 11 All-Star appearances in 16 seasons. This was his first trip to the NBA Finals.

The 36-year-old had a good season with the Suns, averaging 16.4 points, 45 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game in the regular season. He led the NBA in free-throw percentage. In the postseason, Paul averaged 19.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 8.6 assists. His team made the Finals for the first time in years.

CP3 is a great player but he needs to win a ring. Joining a super team seems like a good option for the veteran.
