Patriots Reportedly Hosting Pro Lacrosse Player For Rookie Tryout

The New England Patriots will make all the necessary changes to improve the roster and sign players who can actually win games. According to recent sources, the Patriots will try a professional lacrosse player this offseason. Dox Aitken will get a chance to earn a spot on the Patriots roster.

The former All-America laxer at Virginia will join the Patriots rookie minicamp over the weekend. Patriots coaches noticed his potential and he will now get to show his true skills. Dough Kyed was among the first to report this information.

We don’t have more information about Bill Belichick’s plans for Aitken. He is a good wide receiver, but can also be safety and punter. He played these positions at Haverford and this makes him a great candidate for a roster spot on Belichick’s squad. One thing stands for sure. Belichick likes versatile players and Aitken could easily earn a spot on his roster.

Patriots coaches may have great plans for the lacrosse player

Aitken went to Villanova in 2020 as a receiver, but returned right away and joined Virginia’s lacrosse team in 2021.

In five collegiate seasons, Aitken saw action in 77 lacrosse games. He scored 138 goals and earned first-team USILA All-America honors in 2018 and 2019. Aitken was also nominated for the Tewaaroton Trophy and led Virginia to a title in 2019. He did a really good job in both seasons.

Aitken has a deal with Altas Lacrosse Club in the Premier Lacrosse League at the moment. In 2021, he saw action in five PLL games and played eight more in 2022. He delivered 15 goals and four assists.

Will Belichick give the 215-pounder a chance to play?

Here’s a fun fact. The Patriots head coach is a huge lacrosse fan. He is also friends with PLL founder Paul Rabil. Belichick has already worked with lacrosse players in his career. Chris Hogan played lacrosse at Penn State and then joined the league as an undrafted free agent.

The Patriots will probably think twice before offering him a deal. They are really careful with players like Aitkin, but Belichick sure knows how to dig out the brightest gems.
