Lakers Roster & Projected Starting Lineup After Recent Free Agency Moves

The Los Angeles Lakers had a good roster last season and their starting lineup was pretty efficient. The team made the Western Conference Finals, but couldn’t get past the Denver Nuggets. Will the front office make some changes? General Manager Rob Pelinka made some moves in free agency and NBA analysts discussed a few potential scenarios.

The Lakers got Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, and Cam Reddish in free agency. Rui Hachimura secured his spot on the Lakers roster, but Dennis Schroder left the team and joined the Toronto Raptors.

This is the current Lakers roster:

C- Anthony Davis, Wenyen Gabriel
PF- Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, Taurean Prince, Cole Swider (two-way)
SF- LeBron James, Cam Reddish
SG- Austin Reaves (restricted free agent), Malik Beasley (free agent), Lonnie Walker (free agent), Max Christie, Jalen Hood-Schifino
PG- D’Angelo Russell (free agent), Gabe Vincent, Scotty Pippen (free agent)

Lakers starting lineup could look different in 2023-24

The Lakers have nice depth at point guard at the moment. Russell is still here and he may re-sign with the team. If this happens, Vincent won’t really get a starting role with the team.

The front office traded for Russell and he was an excellent addition for the team. However, he had some issues in the postseason. The Lakers didn’t get the best of him and Russell wasn’t a huge factor in the series against the Nuggets.

Jake Fischer from Yahoo Sports reported that the Lakers may consider re-signing the veteran. According to this report, Russell will get a two-year deal worth $40 million.

“The other strong word out of Hollywood is that the Lakers are trending toward bringing back D’Angelo Russell after acquiring him from the Timberwolves at February’s trade deadline,” Fischer wrote on June 30, 2023. “Early indications are that Russell and the Lakers could come to terms on a two-year, $40 million deal with the second year a team option or non-guaranteed.”

The Lakers have a chance to make a few more signings in free agency. Keeping Austin Reaves around should be a priority and the front office will have to match each and every offer he gets from other teams.
