Patriots QB Mac Jones Reacts To Josh McDaniels Unexpected Firing

Josh McDaniels is no longer a head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. He firing caused a stir in the NFL world. McDaniels left the New England Patriots because he really wanted to be a head coach. Was this a bad call? Patriots quarterback Mac Jones shared his thoughts on McDaniels and his impact on the game.

The Alabama quarterback has great respect for McDaniels. He worked with him in 2021 and it was his best season. McDaniels knew how to unleash Jones’ full potential and trusted his skill set.

“I have a lot of respect for Josh and his family,” Jones told the media on Wednesday. “I had a great experience with him and, like you said, we have a good relationship and it’s a tough part of the business. Like I said, I have a lot of respect for Josh and his family and what he’s done for this place, and all that too. So, definitely, thoughts are with him.”

McDaniels led Jones in the right direction

Jones and McDaniels had great success in 2021. The Patriots had a 10-7 record and it was actually a decent one because they had a rookie at center. Jones did a good job and even made the Pro Bowl. The NFL world was impressed with his 3,801 yards passing for 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Jones learned a lot from McDaniels and considers him to be “a great football coach.”

“He has a great family, and he’s a great person and a great football coach. So, I definitely learned a lot from him,” the quarterback said. “Right now, it’s hard for me because I’m trying to get ready for a game, right, and just focus on what I can do better.

“I always take coaching points from all the coaches I’ve worked with, and you kind of carry those along with you in kind of your workbook in your head. What did coach tell me in high school? What did coach tell me in college? And, with Josh, what did he tell me my rookie year? You kind of take a little bit from each coach and learn.”

McDaniels’ departure had a huge impact on Jones’ game. The quarterback has an 8-14 record with 4,638 yards passing for 23 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

What’s next for McDaniels? Steve Buckley from The Athletic believes that the former Patriots OC could actually go back to New England. The Patriots have Bill O’Brien at that position and they will have to try really hard to fit McDaniels in the coaching staff. Again.
