Proposed ‘Bold’ Moves Gives Patriots A Star Receiver and Familiar Quarterback

The New England Patriots will have to play really smart and boost every position on their roster. The Patriots need a stronger option at quarterback and also need a star wide receiver.

NFL analysts have created several realistic scenarios for the Patriots. They can select Ohio State star receiver Marvin Harrison JR. This would solve their receiving issues. What about the QB unit? Mac Jones may lose his starting job and Bailey Zappe doesn’t look like a reliable QB option for the team.

Aaron Schatz from ESPN believes that the Patriots can pair Harrison with Jacoby Brissett. The former Patriots quarterback can find his way back to New England. He knows the system and is set to become a free agent.

“Brissett has made a career of surprisingly reasonable performances, with his best year coming with the 2022 Browns. And who was offensive coordinator of those Browns? None other than new Patriots coordinator Alex Van Pelt!” Schatz wrote. “With Brissett throwing to Harrison, the Patriots can then use a lower-round pick on a passer to develop behind Brissett. Michael Penix Jr. [Washington] might be an option in the second round, or Spencer Rattler [South Carolina] in the third or fourth round.”

Schatz advised the Patriots to go after Harrison instead of trying to land any of the top quarterback prospects. His suggestion makes sense in so many aspects. Harrison has great talent and the Patriots would get the best of him all while offering him a rookie contract.

Patriots can get a star wide receiver and reunite with a familiar quarterback

Getting Brissett makes sense for Schatz as well. He noted that the former Patriots quarterback is “the perfect caretaker veteran quarterback.”

Brissett signed a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders and will be available in 2024. The Patriots selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Brissett had an opportunity to perform because Tom Brady was suspended due to the Deflategate scandal and Jimmy Garoppolo had suffered an injury. The young player had 400 yards passing in three games. This performance earned him a deal with the Indiana Pacers. He threw for 3,098 yards and 13 touchdowns to go with seven interceptions.

Brissett joined the Cleveland Browns after four seasons. In 2022, he threw for 2,608 yards and 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Washington got him next. Is Brissett on his way to New England?
