Lakers’ LeBron James Surprises Duquesne With Gifts Ahead Of BYU Showdown

LeBron James knows how to surprise everyone around him and players on the Duquesne men’s basketball team know it really well. Players will take part in their very first NCAA tournament run in 47 years. It is a great opportunity for the team and guess who showed up to hype them all… LeBron.

During a team meeting scheduled on Wednesday, the Dukes watched a trolley of gifts enter the room. The four-time NBA champion had sent players brand new sneakers ahead of their game against the BYU Cougars.

Duquesne Basketball’s official X account shared a video of the surprise. Players were really surprised by the gift and everyone was really excited.

LeBron surprised his former coach and the Duquesne team

What motivated LeBron to organize the generous offering? It goes all the way back to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. LeBron’s school. Keith Dambrot coached LeBron in high school and he is now coaching the Dukes. Dambrot is expected to retire after the season. There’s a lot going on for the Dukes right now and they really need to win this one.

Duquesne had a 24-11 record in the 2023-24 season. They won the Atlantic 10 and earned a chance to go even higher.

LeBron congratulated the team on social media right after they won the conference championship. Sending all those gorgeous shoes was more like a reward for their great accomplishment. LeBron knew that he had to send all those shoes on Wednesday.

The Dukes haven’t taken part in the NCAA tournament since 1977. They haven’t even went past the first round since 1969. In other words, this is an important game for every member of the squad. The Dukes will try to break the spell and beat BYU on Thursday in the Round of 64 at CHI Health Center in Omaha.
