AFC Assistant Coach Thinks This Prospect ‘Perfect For’ Patriots

The New England Patriots will enter the 2024 NFL Draft with a few major holes on their roster. They need players at several positions, and yes, they haven’t found a reliable quarterback yet. The Patriots have shown great interest in one particular prospect and the talented player is an ideal pick for the team.

Drake Maye has been turning heads for quite some time. The North Carolina product is one of the best prospects in the draft.

New England will get to pick a player after the Washington Commanders. They have the No.2 pick and will probably pick Jayden Daniels. The Patriots could choose between Maye and J.J. McCarthy. Both prospects are expected to be available by the time Patriots get to make a pick.

Patriots de facto general manager Eliot Wolf seems be a fan of McCarthy. This causes a confusion in New England and they will have to make a decision before the official start of the draft.

Patriots may have found the perfect prospect

Tom Pelissero from NFL Media discussed the 2024 draft class, relying on comments made by executives, scouts, and coaches. An AFC assistant coach insists that the Patriots get Maye.

“There’s a lot of that on film: Bad pocket awareness, there’s some bad plays,” the assistant coach told Pelissero. “But he’s just a big athlete that can really throw it. To me, he’s perfect for New England (which holds the No. 3 pick) because they’ve got Jacoby (Brissett). I think he’d be perfect there to sit for a year. He is the biggest high-ceiling, low-floor guy. Because he’s immature. Not bad immature — he’s just like a kid.”

The Patriots can get a quarterback with their highest pick and keep Jacoby Brissett around as his mentor. The team enters an important season and this draft is probably one of the most important drafts in team history. Let’s see how it ends. Will the Patriots actually use the No.3 pick?
