Report: Cleveland Owner Makes Shocking Statement About LeBron James

LeBron James made his big move, and is a free agent now. It’s official. We’ve been waiting for the decision for too long, and it seemed like eternity. LeBron decided to decline his $35.6 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Big LeBron thought it would be better if he signs with a team of his choice. Fans believe that the NBA star will leave Cleveland again. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith says the same thing.

During the Friday’s “First Take” episode, Smith talked about the reasons James has to leave the Cavs. He also said that team owner Dan Gilbert is looking forward to his departure, mostly due do their poor friendship. According to Smith, Gilbert thinks that James’ departure will help him get the team back. Is Cleveland ready for this?

“This notion that LeBron James and Dan Gilbert still get along so exceptionally well; that’s not what I’ve been hearing. One of the things that I’ve been hearing, as this period closes in, Max, is that Dan Gilbert—according to a couple of owners I’ve spoken to and a few executives I’ve spoken to—Dan Gilbert is known for not being particularly fond of LeBron James,” Smith said.

“He doesn’t mind the thought of LeBron James leaving at all. As a matter of fact, I had one executive tell me ‘Excuse me, I can’t wait until he leaves because I’ll get my team back.’ This is something that Dan Gilbert has actually echoed, so we got to take that into consideration. This is a person that views themself as being stuck with LeBron James, as opposed to somebody salivating and craving that he stays,” he added.

Well, Smith may be right. There wasn’t any harmony in the relationship between Gilbert and James. That makes things easier for the owner.
