Shaq Mason’s Contract Extension Is A Huge Hit In Patriots’ Locker Room

Everybody talked about Shaq Mason’s contract extension. He was the most popular topic in the New England Patriots’ locker room.

Reporters were curious about Mason’s new contract extension, and his teammates reacted in the most hilarious way possible. Friendly jabs, of course.

“Hey, Shaq, you got my $20?” offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle said after spotting all the reporters around Mason.
Mason was asked what was he going to do with his new contract extension, and center David Andrews stood up from the locker and said, “We’re going to lift. Let’s go, Shaq.”

Mason’s contract is worth $50 million over five years, and this includes $23.5 million guaranteed. He’s in line to earn more than six NFL guards. The 25-year-old player downplayed the significance of the extension. “I wasn’t really putting too much thought into it, really, because we’re still in training camp. So I’ve been out there working. But it was a blessing, for sure. It’s definitely a good thing to get done. But just moving forward, I’m trying to focus on the season. That’s over and done with now. We’ve got practice tomorrow,” Mason said.

Mason is a borderline Pro Bowler and finished as Pro Football Focus’ fourth-highest-graded player at this spot. He will hit free agency next spring and this gave the Patriots a chance to make something. “It’s huge. I love it here. I love my coach. I love my teammates. It’s a blessing,” Mason said. The Patriots drafted him in 2015.

The new deal will help the Patriots to keep their offensive line through the 2019 season. Left guard Joe Thune has two more years of his rookie deal, and Andrews has three more. “I’m obviously really, really happy for (Mason). He’s a great player and an even better teammate. Nothing but good things to say about the guy, and I’m really, really happy for him,” Thuney said.

Congrats, Mason!
