Magic Johnson sure knows how to do magic, and the signing of LeBron James was one of his tricks. Jeanie Buss and Magic Johnson did a good job to land one of the greatest players in the league. What are these two up to? Kevin Durant?
Many thought that the Los Angeles Lakers would sign another major star, but they’re fine with LeBron. They will combine him with the young core at the team, and that’s their winning formula for this season. Will Kevin Durant fit in?
The Lakers are getting ready for another max free agent next summer. They had all the time in the world for Luol Deng.
SB Nation’s Tom Ziller gave a good explanation for the deals.
“But what about players with 10 or more years of service, like, say, Kevin Durant? Their projected max starting salary next year is $38.2 million. So stretching Deng over three years wouldn’t quite do the trick. There would need to be another move to make the space. Unless the Lakers convinced Deng to take a discount to get out of his contract. Which they did,” he said.
Durant hasn’t made any comments on this. He’s the only person to confirm the rumors. Let’s not forget that Kawhi Leonard is a heavy favorite for a second superstar on the Lakers. Leonard was traded to the Toronto Raptors.
The only thing that matters at the moment is the fact that the Lakers have plans, resources and strong options. Yes, that’s pretty much everything you can ask from a front office. Buss is doing a great job with the team. They managed to LeBron James, meaning they can get every player flying to Los Angeles.
This opens a brand new era for the Lakers, and the team is ready to rock ‘n roll. They may have had a bad season, but they’re ready for the big challenge called LeBron.
