Report: Week 2 Status For Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead Revealed

Are the backs coming back in Week 2? We have the latest info related to the status of Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that both Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead will play on Sunday. They will help the team win the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Well, we should’ve guessed it, because both players made their trip down to Florida. Everything pointed to the fact that both backs would enter the arena. The team was comfortable enough to send them on the charter, so yes, they’re playing today.

We didn’t see Burkhead on Wednesday’s practice as he had a concussion. However, he did return to practice on a limited basis in the following days. In the regular-season opener against the Houston Texans, Burkhead got the start in the backfield. He rushed for 64 yards on 18 carries, and caught one of his three targets. If there’s no limitation from the concussion, Burkhead will definitely have a major role in the team’s backfield playing both rusher and pass catcher. He may also line up in the slot as a receiver.

When it comes to Michel, he teased his fate of having his NFL debut on Saturday, and his post was outrageous.

Michel missed the preseason, as he suffered a knee injury, and had fluid drained from his knee. He was practicing on a limited basis, and now he’s ready for the game. “Very eager. I’m doing all I can to prepare, whatever the coaches’ plan is. I don’t know what the plan is, but my mindset is to prepare as if I’m playing,” he said.

“Yeah, he gets better every day. Again, he missed a lot of plays in training camp and in training camp practices. He’s gotten more of a chance to be involved with those more recently, and each time he runs them, he sees something a little different or reacts a little bit quicker or whatever it is and he gains more confidence by doing something, multiple, double-digit times instead of just a couple times. So, just reacting quicker and being more decisive,” head coach Belichick said of his progress.
