Chiefs Receiver Suffers ‘Freak Accident’ At Practice

The Kansas City Chiefs provides an injury update, and it is definitely bad. Wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas will miss some of the game due to his leg fracture. Chiefs Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder said that Thomas injured the same leg he broke in Week 17 of the 2017 season. He had a “freak accident” and got stepped on from behind. However, this time he will not have a surgery.

The Chiefs are now short one of their playmakers in the return game. Thomas had three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown. He also had a punt return for 48 yards and two kick returns for 33 yards. Thomas will probably be replaced by Rookie cornerback Tremon Smith.

Eric Murray will also be out of the game due to an ankle injury. Justin Houstin and Eric Berry are also doubtful. Ron Parker, Jordan Lucas and Josh Shaw are the only players the Chiefs are left with.

“I think anytime you get a new guy in here, which Jordan is – he’s just arrived here over the past couple of weeks – he doesn’t have the luxury of training camp and all those things. There’s really nowhere to go but say hey, this is what he can do and these are the things he’s capable of doing. He’s another high-energy guy, plays fast. He’s got a good partner back there in Ron Parker. Ron does a great job helping him out if there’s any questions. The team on the field’s the same. We’re going to go play Sunday night. A touchdown’s still worth six points no matter who’s playing at safety. They don’t give us any kind of discount, so we’ve just got to go play, and I think he’ll be fine. He did an outstanding job in the game the other day. There’s no other alternative or approach that helps you do anything besides saying you believe in that guy, the other guys believe in him and everybody else is asked to,” defensive coordinator Bob Sutton said of Lukas.
