Former Patriots Scout Compares Potential New England Draft Target To NFL Star

NFL draft prospect Roman Wilson is similar to Tyler Lockett on so many levels. Former New England Patriots scout Jim Nagy talked about Wilson’s performance and his bright future in the NFL. The Patriots could really get the best of their draft target.

“He’s quick, he’s fast, he’s sturdy, he plays big on the ball for a little guy,” Nagy told M Live Media’s Aaron McMann in reference to Wilson. “That’s why the Tyler Lockett comparison.”

Lockett joined the NFL as a third-round draftee in 2015. Nagy was part of the scouting squad for the Seattle Seahawks back then. Lockett became a key player for the Seahawks, embracing his role as a kick returner. The three-time All-Pro eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in four straight seasons.

Patriots draft target has great chances in the NFL

McMann approves this comparison. Wilson ran a 4.39 40-yard dash in the NFL Scouting Combine with a 1.52 10-yard split. Lockett did a 4.40 40-yard dash back in 2015.

“This is kind of an under-the-radar kid, who has good speed, maybe doesn’t have the size,” McMann told NESN.com.

In 46 games at Michigan, Wilson had 1,707 receiving yards and 107 receptions. He may not be selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but he will sure have a great future in the league.

McMann claims that these numbers have nothing to do with his skills. It’s more related to the offense in Michigan.

“Another example of maybe not having the stats because Michigan doesn’t throw the ball a ton,” McMann said. “I think he’ll do something at the NFL level. I think he’ll probably have a lengthy career. He’s a pretty good locker room guy, too. Well-liked. I think he would be a good fit for an NFL franchise.”

Austin Meek from The Athletic says Wilson is a strong prospect with great options.

“He came into Michigan with a reputation as kind of just a speed guy, ran a really fast 40 time as a recruit,” Meek told NESN.com. “But as his career went on I think he became a lot more well-rounded and got a lot stronger, made some really tough catches this year in traffic, contested catches. I think he got a lot better at that. So, I think he’s really good.”
