NFL Insider: Josh McDaniels Open To Leaving New England Patriots?!

Josh McDaniels decided to stay with the New England Patriots last offseason, and did not even consider joining the Indianapolis Colts. NFL experts started saying that he would eventually replace Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Well, it is more than obvious that Belichick will retire at some point, and McDaniels already said that he will not take his position.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports spoke on the matter, and there is a huge possibility that Josh McDaniels leaves the Patriots.

“Whether McDaniels will be in the mix for coaching vacancies next offseason depends on who you speak to. Those close to McDaniels say he hasn’t completely closed the door on leaving the Patriots at some point – even with the Colts fiasco still fresh, his re-worked contract and head coach Bill Belichick opening up the inner workings of the franchise to him,” Robinson wrote, adding that “those who know him well say that he will always be a coach who likes being courted, while also having a brand of ambition that keeps his mind open to new opportunities.”

The report came as a part of the story in which the Cleveland Browns search for a new head coach. McDaniels had a few chances to join the organization, but he did not like that. The Brons change head coach all the time, and McDaniels is more into organizational stability. Yes, we are referring to the same stability that kept Bill Belichick in Foxboro for 19 seasons.

In other words, teams with great stability and roster talent have great chance of attracting McDaniels. The Green Bay Packers are an option, and it would be definitely great to coach Aaron Rodgers.

McDaniels is at the point in his career where he can afford to be selective. The Patriots were his first choice, but nobody is removing Belichick to make room for him.
