Tedy Bruschi Rips Decision For Patriots To Have Gronk On Field For Dolphins’ Final Play

The Miami Dolphins gave the New England Patriots the surprise of their life last night. The last-second touchdown was like a bullet for the Patriots, and some were really confused to see tight end Rob Gronkowski on the field during he final play, including Tedi Bruschi.

Gronkowski was put on the field as the last line of defense for a Hail Mary attempt. However, the Dolphins were on their 31-yard line, and Adam Gase decided to call a hook-and-lateral play. Kenyan Drake rushed past Gronk and went straight into the end zone. That’s how the Dolphins got their 34-33 win. Former Patriot Tedi Bruschi criticized the Patriots head coach Bill Belichick’s decision to bring Gronk in when there we almost no risk that quarterback Ryan Tannehill performs a 70-yard throw to the end zone.

“Gronk was in because that is a “last play” defense. The last play can be a hail mary pass. In a situation where chances of a hail mary are low, the “jumper” (Gronk) should be substituted for another safety/DB. For tackling purposes. That was not done,” Tedi Bruschi wrote on Twitter.

Donte Stallworth went even deeper in the subject, adding that this was one of the worst mistakes the head coach has ever made. “Why is Gronk in on defense with the ball on the minus 30 yard line on the last play of the game? That’s not hindsight, either. This is not Hail Mary territory.”

“The QB would have to throw the ball 75+ yards just to reach the end zone. I don’t understand why Gronk was in the game,” he added.

“We would put Randy Moss back deep but that was in *actual Hail Mary situations. I am really puzzled by this. I think this is one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen by Belichick. Not playing Butler in the SB is probably number 1. But … at least we know BB is human,” the former Patriot joked on Belichick.
