Extension Decision Looming Over New England Patriots With Julian Edelman

Julian Edelman went through a roller coaster this year. He recovered from a torn ACL, the NFL suspended him, became a father, and was named the Super Bowl MVP. But, Edelman came through the other side, and will be rewarded for his efforts.

“It means the world,” Edelman said ahead of the Super Bowl. “This is what you play the game for and it’s been a crazy year for me, two years. I have a kid, tear your ACL, you miss four games. It’s been a mentally, physically, emotionally exhausting year. You put all that effort into overcoming that for this game. It’s been a heck of a year to get to go out and play with your teammates and see how this thing’s evolved out. It’s always a great thing getting to play in the last game of the year.”

“It was tough,” the receiver said of 2018. “You’ve got mixed emotions. You’re happy your teammates are there. You’ve seen some of these younger guys come in as rookies and develop big roles and make big plays to get to the Super Bowl and you’re excited for them but then you also have a hurt feeling because you’re not playing. That’s kind of how you feel but that was last year and this year I’m thinking about the Los Angeles Rams.”

Edelman will turn 33 by the start of the next season, and has already reached to the final year of his two-year contract worth $11 million. He will earn $2 million in base salary with a total cap hit of $4.5 million. New England will sure lock him up for the rest of his career.

The team lost the chance to sign Adam Humphries, Golden Tate and Cole Beasley.

Edelman had great numbers in 2018. He caught 74 passes for 850 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. It seems like he will be rewarded with a big bump as he stays with the Pats.
