Rumor: Kawhi Leonard Has ‘Kept An Eye On The Los Angeles Lakers’

Kawhi Leonard helped the Toronto Raptors win their first title, and now comes his free agency. Leonard has been linked to the Los Angeles Clippers, but he is also expected to re-sign with the Raptors.

The Los Angeles Lakers got Anthony Davis, and some believe that Leonard may be interested in joining LeBron James. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said that Leonard’s camp has “kept an eye on the Lakers.”

Los Angeles will have to fix the cap space to get Leonard. Everything depends on the Davis trade. The Lakers will have to find a third team to get Moritz Wagner, Isaac Bonga, Jemerrio Jones and Alex Caruso. If they manage to do this, Jeanie Buss will be able to sign Leonard and offer him $32 million.

However, not everyone agrees with this one.

ESPN’s Tim Leggier discussed Leonard’s best option, suggesting that he better stay in Toronto.

“I thought all along he had a great chance to stay,” he said on The Dan Patrick Show. “To try and figure out a guy who doesn’t really talk, I don’t know how you come up with any sort of indicator on where he’s leaning. Here’s what I thought from the time he got there: This is a city where he’s going to really find himself comfortable. He’s also going to find himself in a comfortable situation from he standpoint that he doesn’t have the media hoard and the intense scrutiny that he’s going to get in a lot of cities in the U.S. where he is now going to have to answer a lot of questions.

“He doesn’t want to deal with that and I think he’s in a good place with a city that loves their team.

“He’s going to be beloved and revered playing there. They’re going to be good, they’re well coached, but he doesn’t have to deal with a lot of the things he’s going to have deal with like L.A. as the top guy. If he goes in the shadow of another player like LeBron, it’s different. He’ll take on all of that responsibility and Kawhi can be very comfortable riding shotgun.

“It doesn’t seem like that’s what he wants. I think he’s a guy that wants to be at the top of the food chain on his team. Toronto seems like a great team for his personality.”
