Patriots’ Patrick Chung Indicted For Cocaine Possession In New Hampshire

Patriots safety Patrick Chung was indicted in New Hampshire on a cocaine possession charge. According to the documents released Thursday, the player was indicted on August 8 for the incident, and the police says it happened on June 25 in Meredith.

Chung “did possess or have under his control a quantity of the controlled substance cocaine” on June 25 in Meredith, according to the indictment. When asked for a booking photo, Meredith Police Chief Kevin Morrow said Chung “was not arrested and there is no photo to provide.”

However, Jim Murray of radio station 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston tweeted that, according to a source, “Patrick Chung’s home in Meredith had an alarm tripped for a B&E. Police show up to check on the home, have probable cause to enter the home, and ultimately end up finding cocaine, leading to the investigation and indictment.”

A court notification form in Chung’s court file reveals that the player is scheduled to be arraigned next Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. The form states that defendants have to appear at their arraignments. There are also cases when attorneys could request the arraignment be waived. There’s also a possibility that attorneys ask the court for permission to appear in court on a client’s behalf.

Cocaine possession is a Class B felony and may bring a potential prison sentence of 3½ to seven years.

The Patriots released the following statement Thursday afternoon: “We are aware of the reports regarding Patrick Chung. We will not be commenting while his judicial proceedings take place.”

Chung has been part of the Patriots family for nine seasons. In 2018, he had 83 tackles. The safety won three Super Bowls with the team, including Super Bowl LIII against the Los Angeles Rams. Chung had to leave the game before it ends because of the terrible injury he suffered. This incident may put an end to his career, and losing Chung is something the Patriots can’t afford. But, it’s too serious to be ignored, and there will be consequences.

New England has won the first two games of the preseason, and they are off to another win.
